Is it okay to get a veneer on just one front tooth?
Yes. The number depends on the goal. If one tooth is chipped or only one is shaped differently, only that tooth gets a veneer, and if the neighboring teeth are healthy, they're left alone. However, if you also want to change the color, lightening just one tooth makes it look mismatched with the others, so I also look at the teeth that need to match.
Some people feel it's excessive, saying, “I thought I only needed two, but you're talking about more.” The reason for widening the scope isn't to increase the number, but to separate the teeth that show from the teeth that need to match.
Do the teeth visible when you smile decide the number?
Yes. How wide the smile shows differs from person to person, so some mouths are done with four, and in others the canines show too. Canines are often yellower than front teeth, so if only the front four are lightened, the canines look even yellower. In that case, either the canines are included or the color of the neighboring teeth is raised first with teeth whitening.
The teeth that show differ between a closed-mouth photo and a smiling photo, so I don't decide on four or six in advance. I also consider that making the front four too white makes the border with the canines stand out more.
| Goal | Scope |
|---|---|
| One tooth is chipped | That one tooth |
| Only one side is noticeably small | That tooth, and the opposite side if needed |
| The front teeth are all dark when smiling | The visible front teeth (usually 4) |
| The canines show | Consider up to 6 together |
How does the price of front-tooth veneers change with the number?
Veneers are priced per tooth, so the number greatly affects the total. Wonjin Dental's Brinate prices are as follows.
| Type | Thickness | Time | Price per tooth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (machine-made) | 0.3mm | Same day possible | ₩330,000 |
| Build-up (layered by hand) | 0.1mm | About 1 week | ₩550,000 |
| Platinum (layered by hand) | 0.1mm | About 2 weeks | ₩990,000 |
Prices are as of September 2026, VAT included (cosmetic treatment). Treatment for cavities or gums, or a night guard (₩500,000), is separate if needed, and because it's for cosmetic purposes, it isn't covered by Korean National Health Insurance. Other items are on the full fee list. Even if the price per tooth is lower, the total can end up similar if more teeth are recommended, so I'd like you to look at what's included in the numbers as well.
When shouldn't the number be increased?
I don't fill out the number by placing porcelain on teeth that stick out, and I don't bond veneers for a skeletal protruding mouth. If the alignment is very crooked, trying to correct it with veneers means grinding more, so moving the teeth first with partial orthodontics and then bonding only the number needed preserves more of the teeth. I don't touch healthy teeth. That's because once a tooth has been worked on, it's hard to undo.
How we do it at Wonjin Dental
I hand you a mirror at the consultation not to increase the number, but to show you the visible range and the teeth to match together. If there are cavities, those come first; if there's gum inflammation, that's cleared up first; and if you grind your teeth, we also talk about a protective guard. These things are checked together at the first consultation. Porcelain that's been bonded isn't exactly like the original even if it's removed, so the right number has to differ from person to person.
Frequently asked questions
Which is better, machine-made or hand-layered?
For small teeth or a simple tone, machine-made is sometimes enough. For very thin veneers or tricky colors, hand-layered has the advantage.
Can I do only the upper teeth and not the lower teeth?
If the lower teeth hardly show when you smile, often only the upper teeth are done. If the lower teeth show clearly and the color difference is large, whitening or veneers on the lower teeth are considered as well.
Can I add more veneers later?
Yes. However, they need to match the brightness and translucency of the earlier restorations, so color matching can be trickier than doing them together from the start.
How many visits do front-tooth veneers take?
Basic is finished the same day if conditions are right; for Build-up you come back after about 1 week, and for Platinum after about 2 weeks, to have them bonded. If cavity or gum treatment is needed first, the number of visits increases.
